DESCRIPTION:
Join an 8-day Rwenzori Mountain Hiking Tour to conquer the "Mountains of the Moon," exploring forests, glaciers, and breathtaking landscapes for an unforgettable adventure.
ITINERARY:
Day 1:
Distance: 8.6 km | Duration: 5-7 hours
Starting at 1,667m, climbing to 3,171m. The trek begins at Trekkers Hostel in Kyanjiki. After a brief at the UWA rangers post, you'll ascend through montane forests, passing diverse wildlife, including Colobus and Blue monkeys. The bamboo zone starts after lunch, and the trail climbs steadily, leading to Samalira Camp with stunning views of Kasese and Lake George.

Day 2:
Distance: 6.9 km | Duration: 4-5 hours
Starting at 1,667m, climbing to 3,380m. After breakfast, the path becomes steeper as we ascend through moss-covered ridges. The views are expansive, including Kilembe village and Lake George. After crossing Chavumba, we descend into Nyamwamba valley for lunch and then climb to Kiharo Camp, nestled at the foot of granite rock formations.

Day 3:
Distance: 6.8 km | Duration: 4-5 hours
Starting at 3,380m, climbing to 4,065m. Today’s climb takes you through misty forests with giant lobelias and steep cliffs. The trail leads to spectacular views over nine glacier lakes and the Namusangi valley.

Day 4:
Distance: 6 km | Duration: 5-6 hours
Starting at 4,030m, climbing to 4,450m. The trail climbs to Bamwanjara Pass with panoramic views, then descends to Kachope Lakes. The area offers a rare chance to spot the elusive Rwenzori leopard. After visiting Kachope Lakes, we ascend to McConnells Camp to prepare for Mt. Baker's climb.

Day 5:
Distance: 4.3 km | Duration: 4-6 hours
Climbing Mt. Baker to 4,842m, with an ascent of 3-4 hours and a 3-hour descent. The climb to the peak is steep and rocky, offering incredible views of the surrounding mountains. After enjoying the view, we descend back to McConnells Camp.

Day 6:
Distance: 6 km | Duration: 4-5 hours
Starting at 4,006m, climbing to 4,450m and descending to Camp 3. After visiting Kachope Lakes and crossing Bamwanjara Pass, we return to Camp 3 with great opportunities to spot hyraxes and possibly the Rwenzori leopard.

Day 7:
Distance: 5.8 km | Duration: 4-6 hours
Descend through the Namusangi valley, crossing boggy areas and waterfalls, before reaching the Mutinda Rock Shelter. This large shelter offers a dry and spacious resting spot for our final night.

Day 8:
Distance: 16.7 km | Duration: 6-10 hours
Starting from Mutinda, we descend through rocky valleys to Kalalama Camp and then continue to the ranger post, passing through bamboo forests and montane forests. After the debriefing, the trek ends at Trekkers Hostel.
